My Textile Journey
Perhaps it is just a sensory thing but I really enjoy fabrics, how they are made, and all of the different textures and uses for them.
When I was a kid I had a pillow that was stuffed with feathers and had this lovely slightly softer than denim cover. I think it was military issued because my parents were in the Army. That was my first love.
Until I received two beautiful velvet dresses from my grandmother when I was 10. Oh how these dresses made me feel so pretty! I couldn't wait for an excuse to put them on. "Get dressed we're going to church", out come the regal velvet dresses. The fabric was soft like velour, they had ribbon detailing, a touch of lace in all of the right places, one was a navy blue, and the other was a dark teal green. I thought I was the most beautiful girl in the world with those dresses on and, I had some white stockings and a pair of patent leather ballet flats to go with them.
But then I grew up and Easter would come around. One year, when I was about 13, my mother found the most beautiful floral cotton dress I had ever seen. It had a sweetheart bust, puffed sleeves, puffed skirt, pockets, all in lovely pastel colors, at a midi length. I wish I still had that dress, it was so pretty. The fabric was cotton and I loved to iron it after a wash; I liked the way it would look brand new after the iron touched it.
And then it all became real when I turned 18 and was set free in a luxury department store and a purse full of money. I could look at finer fashions, stunning fabrics, amazing designs, and so much more! I was a whole new world full of interesting textiles and textures.
After a while, I realized that I had an obsession... I love fashion.
Will I ever stop shopping? Nope, feels too good and is way too much fun. Fortunately for you Dear Reader I have turned my obsession into a hunt for the good stuff. My mission is to bring you my "A" game in the world of fashion wonderful. So, if it's silky, pretty, flattering, stunning, adorable, gorgeous, or amazing, I'm buying it and posting it for you to enjoy.
I don't know it's like I'm a fashion magnet and great fashion seems to like me, a lot.
Please feel free to help yourself to some fine fashions; I have curated each piece to have you looking and feeling just as good as I did when I wore my lovely dresses as a child.
Sincerely,
Smartfindz
